You may feel queasy from the altitude when climbing. Please feel free to bring along some nibbles e.g sweets that you particularly like. Anything that you think you can keep digested.
*Diamox (Acetazolamide) is used to prevent and reduce the symptoms of altitude sickness. This medication can decrease headache, tiredness, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath that can occur when you climb quickly to high altitudes (generally above 10,000 feet/3,048 meters). It is particularly useful in situations when you cannot make a slow ascent. The best ways to prevent altitude sickness is to climb slowly,
Recommended dose 125 to 250mg twice daily starting one or two days prior to and continuing for three days once the highest altitude is reached, is effective. No medication should be taken without Dr's approval.

Standing Astride the equator, yet permanently snow-capped, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's rooftop and the world's highest freestanding mountain. Surrounded by some of the world's greatest game reserves, Kilimanjaro towers above these hot, fertile plains like a massive sentinel, beckoning adventurers to climb her. Many travelers are attracted to her highest point-Uhuru Peak on Kibo - which can be reached by several easy walking or scrambling tracks. The two main summits of Kilimanjaro: craggy Mawenzi, 5149m, and 'flat-altitude, semi-desert. Kilimanjaro possesses a whole range of environments including the summit glaciers, screes, cliffs, afro-alpine moorland then forests, which lead down to cultivated foothills. PNG Trekking Adventures takes the Rongai Route up Kilimanjaro. We have added an extra day on the mountain for acclimatisation purposes. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport the group will be met by PNG Trekking Adventures representatives and transferred to Ngaresero Mountain Lodge where you check in and enjoy the lush gardens of the hotel. Start hydrating this is very important. Our mountain guides will come to the hotel either today or tomorrow and give a climb briefing. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge. After breakfast we will transfer to the Rongai gate. Enjoy a coffee or tea while our guide secures the climbing permits after which we will start the climb. The scenery changes from maize and potato fields into pine forest while you climb gently. You will see Colobus monkeys on the way. When reaching the edge of the moorland zone, enjoy the views of the plains before arriving at Rongai One. O/n Rongai One Campsite - 2590m (BLD) Tent Accommodation
After breakfast, we steadily hike up to the Second Cave where you enjoy a rest followed by a hot lunch - enjoy the views of Kibo (Mt Kilimanjaro) We then continue a little further across the moorland and onto Kikelewa Caves where you spend the night. A short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers superb views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach Mawenzi Tarn, situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. Acclimatisation day! Together with your guide you head p to the Saddle towards Camel's Back and return to the camp for relaxation. O/n Mawenzi Tarn Campsite - 4330 meters (BLD) Tent Accommodation
Continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to reach Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent, which begins around midnight. O/n Kibo Hut Campsite - 4695 meters (BLD) Tent Accommodation.
Early wakeup call in preparation for the summit attempt starting around 1am. A slow steady pace must be used for the last part of your ascent which will also be the most demanding part of the entire climb. Short rest at Gillman's Point ad if still strong enough continue up to Uhuru Peak - enjoy the views and sunrise. You are now standing on the roof of Africa. Start the descent to Kibo Hut. After a short rest and refreshments, continue down to Horombo Hut where you will spend the night. O/n Horombo Hut Campsite (BLD) Tent Accommodation
After breakfast you descend slowly towards the Marangu gate for celebrations and champagne brunch with the entire team. Your transfer vehicle will be waiting for you and transfer back to Arusha where you enjoy a well deserved hot shower and overnight at Tumbili Lodge. O/n Tumbili Lodge (BLD) Hotel Accommodation (BL)
Depart hotel after breakfast or early afternoon depending on flight schedules. Transfer to airport for homeward journey or continue on safari extension. (B) Clients me be extending for optional Silverback Gorilla's in Rwanda. Or the Safari/Gorilla expedition.
